Unveiled on his 51st birthday, “Mental” captures a powerful link-up between veteran icon 2Baba and modern powerhouse FAVE. Crafted over a smooth, steady beat provided by Dee-Yasso, the song delivers an addictive, slow-burning rhythm that feels instantly familiar. 2Baba offers his classic, effortless vocal control while FAVE injects a distinct contemporary warmth to the record. It is a delightfully infectious cut that highlights how well cross-generational collaborations can land when given room to breathe.

On “Mental,” 2Baba relies on the timeless romantic charm that established his career, teaming up with producer Dee-Yasso to construct an inviting, melody-first landscape. Rather than competing for dominance, both singers lean into their respective stylistic strengths: 2Baba’s grounded, soulful presence sets the base, while FAVE’s flexible harmonies hover effortlessly above the percussion. The understated arrangement makes this release an easy highlight for quiet evening listening or relaxed drives.

Serving as a celebratory drop for his fans, “Mental” leans into the intense, disorienting side of deep affection. Dee-Yasso’s production keeps the instrumentation minimal yet full, allowing the vocal interaction between 2Baba and FAVE to act as the primary instrument driving the track. The result is a refined, beautifully balanced single that bridges two distinct eras of African pop without feeling forced.
