Ithwasa Lekhansela – Amajika

Ithwasa Lekhansela returns with “Amajika”, a fresh release that gives fans one more song to add to their playlists.

When people turn away from a familiar path, the reasons can involve ambition, pressure or a change in their circumstances. Ithwasa Lekhansela uses Amajika as a title for a 2026 release, a word that can suggest turns, twists or changes in direction.

Life rarely moves in a perfectly straight line. People change their minds, make unexpected choices or find themselves dealing with situations they did not plan for. A turn can create an opportunity, but it can also leave others confused about what happened and why. The title offers a useful way to think about change without assuming whether the song treats it as a positive development, a warning or a source of conflict.

Ithwasa Lekhansela is associated with Maskandi, a South African style closely connected to Zulu-language storytelling and themes drawn from everyday experience. The artist’s 2026 catalogue includes a project titled Inxakanxaka, alongside several tracks released during the same period. That broader context places the title within a body of work drawing on personal and social subjects, although the specific story needs to come from the lyrics.

The idea of a turn is interesting because it can describe both a sudden change and the point where a person decides to do something differently. What looks confusing from the outside may make sense to the person who has reached that decision. Context matters, especially when a change affects relationships or expectations.

Listeners who have faced unexpected developments may recognise the uncertainty behind the title. It encourages a closer look at what caused the change and whether the new direction brings relief, fresh problems or a mixture of both.
