Imithente – Inyoka

Imithente returns with “Inyoka”, a fresh release that gives fans one more song to add to their playlists.

Imithente – Inyoka

Betrayal does not always come from an obvious enemy. In Imithente‘s Inyoka, the title uses the Zulu word for snake as a metaphor for someone who may appear close while hiding harmful intentions.

The image is familiar because a snake can represent danger that is difficult to recognise until it is near. In relationships and social circles, the equivalent may be a person who speaks kindly in public but spreads damaging stories in private. The title suggests suspicion and the discomfort of realising that trust may have been misplaced. That idea is especially relevant when the person causing harm is someone who has been allowed into one’s personal life.

The song is part of Imithente’s 2026 album Umakoti Egoyile, released by Gallo Record Company. The project sits within the Maskandi tradition, where songs often draw on relationships, community life and personal conflict. On this track, Jaiva Zimnike is credited as a featured artist, adding another performer to a song built around the image of concealed danger.

The snake metaphor carries a particular warning because it focuses on what remains hidden. Open disagreement gives people a chance to understand where they stand, but concealed hostility can leave someone questioning past conversations and acts of kindness. The title points towards that uneasy moment when a familiar person begins to look different.

Listeners who have experienced gossip, broken trust or conflict within a close circle may recognise the subject. It is a reminder to pay attention to behaviour over time, while also being careful not to mistake every disagreement for betrayal.
