Somi – What Does It Take to Bloom? Album

GRAMMY-nominated American vocalist, songwriter, composer, and genre-blending artist Somi presents her deeply personal album, What Does It Take to Bloom? The 13-track project explores themes of growth, identity, womanhood, belonging, love, and personal transformation while drawing from jazz, soul, highlife, spoken word, and African musical influences. The album also features collaborations with The Cavemen., Lakecia Benjamin, Ibrahim Maalouf, Benjamin James, Cobhams Asuquo, and other notable musicians.

Across the project, Somi creates an intimate musical journey that reflects on what it means to grow, evolve, love, and find a sense of belonging. From the opening “Throw Something” and the reflective title track to “Mama on Blooming,” “Aiwah,” “Sugar,” and “Ngayaya,” the album moves through different emotional and cultural landscapes. The later tracks, including “Lay It Down,” “Interlude: Skin to Skin,” “We’re All Falling,” and “Love Could Be Anywhere,” bring the project to a thoughtful conclusion.

If you enjoy good music, this is one album you shouldn’t miss. Give it a listen and add it to your playlist because it’s a project you’ll be glad to have in your music collection.
